I was frigid

and you were warm –

if we were a rhythm

you were the crashing waves

rising upon the shoreline

kissing the sand with intention

and I was the retreating tide

returning back to what I knew

But the sun rose

and the current changed –

I grew warm

and we danced together on the peaks

our temperature rose

and I calmed

Then an earthquake struck –

I felt a rumbling beneath the surface

losing all stability,

the ground beneath me crumbled,

I was engulfed,

consumed by a force

stronger than I could fight,

struggling to rise to the surface,

spiraling with every impacted blow

unsure of which direction was up,

I needed to gasp for air

but you were a tsunami,

unforeseen chaos

building outside of my vision

and I did not stand a chance
