Without a Barrier

“You seem quite good with your words”

“I’m told that often.

I’m better through writing,

in person

I can get in my head”

“No –

you were good this weekend”

“I believe it depends on the level of depth –

I can write something to someone

better than I can say it,

especially if it is expressing emotions

or baring a heaviness in any sense,

for if I say it aloud,

particularly face to face,

there is a high likelihood,

it will be mumbled through the edge of a sweatshirt

with my head turned away

hiding my face

for I fear the reaction

without a barrier”
